The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has unveiled the Digital Pakistan 2030 roadmap, a comprehensive 10-year plan to transform Pakistan into a digitally inclusive economy. The plan targets $15 billion in IT exports by 2030 and 2 million new tech jobs.
Key Pillars
- Digital Infrastructure: Nationwide fiber optic coverage reaching 90% of the population by 2030, with 5G coverage in all divisional headquarters.
- Digital Skills: Training 5 million youth in emerging technologies including AI, blockchain, and cybersecurity through public-private partnerships.
- E-Governance: All government services digitized by 2028, with a unified digital identity system linked to NADRA.
- Innovation Ecosystem: Establishing 100 tech incubators and accelerators across universities, with $500 million in government-backed venture funding.
Funding
The government will allocate PKR 200 billion over 10 years, with additional private sector investment expected to reach PKR 500 billion. International development partners including the World Bank and ADB have committed $1.2 billion in technical assistance.
Minister of IT stated that the roadmap builds on Pakistan progress in fintech and e-commerce. “We have the talent and the market. This plan provides the infrastructure and policy framework to compete globally.”
